A task list you have to remember to check is a list that competes with the thing it was supposed to replace: your memory. That’s a competition it loses, because your memory reminds you of things at three in the morning and the list waits politely until you open it.

Native where you are
On Android, the notification is a real system notification. On the web and in the installed PWA, it goes through the browser’s notification API. Same event, whichever surface you happen to be using.
Due dates deserve to mean something
There’s an argument that reminders are a crutch — that a well-run system is reviewed daily and doesn’t need to shout.
If you took the trouble to write a due date, the app should take the trouble to tell you when it approaches or passes. That’s the whole feature.
